CBMAI provides microbial strains to public and private institutions that possess the infrastructure and specialized personnel for microorganism handling. For safety and public health reasons, strains cannot be sent to private residential addresses.
In specific cases involving risk group 2 biological lineages, the request must include a brief explanation of the intended use for the requested material. This request must be signed by the applicant and/or a qualified professional authorized to handle the requested strain, in addition to the client’s “Term of Agreement for Group 2 (TCC),” assuming the risks and responsibilities associated with the receipt, handling, storage, and use of the microorganism/material in question. Furthermore, CBMAI will verify if the applicant meets the necessary standards to receive and handle risk group 2 biological microorganisms.

The shipment of the culture will be made via courier in appropriate packaging, and the costs will be borne by the applicant. The strain may also be picked up in person by the applicant. The shipment of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in Brazil is carried out only for laboratories accredited by CTNBio that are suitable for the material’s classification. In this case, the number of the Biosafety Quality Certificate (CQB) of the laboratory must be provided in the material request.
CBMAI cultures (strains) are distributed in the form of lyophilized ampoules or, alternatively, as an active subculture. CBMAI is not responsible for damage to the strain after one month of shipment.
The acquisition of CBMAI cultures available for public access can only be finalized after the signing of the Service Contract, as well as the Material Transfer Agreement (MTA). If the culture belongs to risk group 2, the client’s Term of Agreement (TCC) must also be signed.
