Microbiological collections constitute specialized curatorship centers with routine procedures, such as performing quality control tests and providing authenticated material. They must also remain attentive to biosafety and biosecurity procedures, aiming at the protection of their staff, the environment, and their holdings. Knowledge of biodiversity and the bioprospecting of new microorganisms have become primary focuses in the biotechnological era, and microbial culture collections play a relevant role in the ex situ conservation, distribution, and identification of these resources, as well as in the organization and provision of information associated with their holdings. It is a laborious activity of great responsibility that demands competence.

The demand for assured quality genetic resources has grown enormously. In this context, the CBMAI and DRM team offers training and advisory services based on their experience in: Culture collection curatorship, Preservation methods, Good Microbiological Laboratory Practices, Taxonomy, Microbial ecology, Isolation and screening, among other related topics
