ABNT NBR ISO/IEC/17.025-17 Accreditation

The Brazilian Collection of Environmental and Industrial Microorganisms – CBMAI, started its activities in January 2002, at the Pluridisciplinary Research Center for Chemistry, Biology and Agriculture – CPQBA, State University of Campinas – Unicamp, SP. The goal was to establish a nucleus of specialized professionals, for the structuring and maintenance of a culture collection able to attend the demand for research in diversity and systematics, including services related to environmental and industrial microbiology.

In 2018, CBMAI submitted its Accreditation Request in the ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 17.025/2017 with INMETRO, with focus on the actions necessary to meet the Quality System guidelines. The standard establishes general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, and it was designed to ensure the quality in the performance of the laboratorial activities and the reliability of their results. This involves equipment calibration and maintenance, environmental monitoring, technical validation of methodologies, as well as a trained and qualified team.

On January 31st, 2020, CBMAI officially received its accreditation, under number CRL 1478, which is the formal expression of recognition of its competence to carry out activities of 13 technical procedures in 2 assays related to the viability and purity and authentication of microbial cultures. Aiming at the constant commitment to the quality of its services, CBMAI and its team of professionals are committed to maintaining the accreditation achieved and attending the next evaluations.
