The Pluridisciplinary Center for Chemical, Biological and Agricultural Research of the State University of Campinas (CPQBA/UNICAMP) had its Germplasm Bank approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), according to Ordinance SDA/MAPA No. 28, of March 19, 2025. This approval represents an important milestone for CBMAI, recognizing its capacity to conserve and make available microorganisms of agricultural interest.
With the approval, CBMAI is authorized to conserve a germplasm bank of microorganisms of agricultural interest and to make available the microbial strains authorized by MAPA for the production of inoculants. This service is crucial for the development of biological inputs for agriculture, contributing to more sustainable and efficient agricultural practices.
The approval by MAPA brings official recognition of the quality and importance of the work carried out by CBMAI in the area of microbial genetic resources. For the collection, this means a strengthening of its research and development activities, in addition to opening new opportunities for collaboration with the productive sector and other research institutions. The expectation is that this approval will further boost innovation in the agricultural sector, with the use of beneficial microorganisms for food production.
